Redfall’s Three Biggest Fixable Problems
Microsoft, Bethesda, and Arkane are right in the midst of a disastrous launch for their new AAA game Redfall. It hit Xbox consoles and PC earlier this week through all sorts of store fronts and the Game Pass subscription service, and the response is pretty much universal frustration and outrage.
I myself think the game is in an embarrassing state, and I’m shocked that it got out the door in the shape that it’s in considering the reputations and cash hoards of the companies involved. After my first article on the game, I did indeed play a bunch more with a friend in co-op as promised, and I’ve also played a fair bit more of the janky Xbox Series S build on my own because I guess I’m a glutton for punishment.
After around eight total hours with this mess of a game, I’ve found three big things that I think could be fixed in a patch. Underneath all the obvious dreck is some glimmer of Arkane’s typically fun gameplay, and although a lot of the design issues can’t be fixed with updates, the fixes below would at least elevate the game from “disaster” to “competent Game Pass game.”
