Razer’s Coolest Keyboard Has A Big Problem
Last year, I reviewed Razer’s new Blackwidow V4 75 percent keyboard. At the time it seemed like they kind of nailed it. They took in a bunch of feedback from online keyboard enthusiasts/nerds, and built-in things like gasket mounts, foam dampening, and lubricated switches. The result was what I thought was a perfect blend of gaming and high-end keyboard features at a reasonably competitive price.
But then I started to see reports of key switch “chatter” online. Some chatter chatter, if you will. I got a little worried, but I hadn’t had any issues during my lengthy review period, so I stood by the piece and continued on blithely.
Last month, when investigating different key switch types to try and declare a favorite for the elaborate popularity contest that is the tech side of the internet, I denounced the Razer switches in a public form. This was in part due to the chatter issues I’d seen reported online. I still hadn’t had any major issues with my unit in spite of months of regular use on my desk, but their soft tactile nature and slow actuation wasn’t fully doing it for me.
