Razer Huntsman V2 TKL Gaming Keyboard Review

Third time’s the charm?

The original Razer Huntsman was Razer’s first attempt at a no-nonsense enthusiast gaming keyboard, and although it had blazingly fast optical switches and a solid build — it was also one of the loudest keyboards I’ve ever allowed in my house.

A while later, Razer tried again, with the made-for-influencers launch of the Huntsman Mini. They rolled out a big marketing campaign and printed custom boxes and space bars for a ton of high profile people in the online tech and gaming sector. I thought this splashy marketing was meant to mask a tired re-release of the same loud keyboard in a smaller form factor, so I almost ignored it.

However, I happened upon a store display at Best Buy and discovered a surprising truth: they added some dampening to the switches in the Mini release. The response speed took a slight hit, but the sound profile and typing experience both improved dramatically. It was a massive and obvious upgrade, and I even named it one of the best gaming keyboards to type on.

Late last year, Razer took another try at improving the Huntsman, with the launch of the new Huntsman V2 lineup. It once again uses their fast optical switches, and it adds support for their 8Khz “HyperPolling” technology to theoretically ensure that speed isn’t wasted. They…
