My Favorite Flawed Gaming Mouse

Fun is better than perfect

Every gamer’s hand is different, and every gamer has a different set of opinions about what’s important in a mouse. The PC gaming peripheral space is a tumultuous world of passionate opinions and online arguments, and that can sometimes suck when you just want to figure out what you might have fun with.

When I review a gaming mouse, I have to think about objective and subjective qualities — and the overlap is greater than you might imagine. Mice have certain things that will be the same for everyone. Aspects like sensor performance, feature lists, button quality, and connection types don’t really change depending on the user.

However, because each person has a differently shaped hand and each mouse comes in its own unique frame, not every person will enjoy holding every mouse. Not every gamer will need the highest level of sensor performance. Some might want to get the best value for their money, or have a mouse that doubles for both gaming and office work. Others only care about that sweet sweet RGB lighting.

Going into product reviews, I try to keep in mind what the current gold standards are for performance, and then evaluate how well a new product lives up to those at its retail price point. But when picking a mouse for myself to use in my free gaming time…
