Microsoft Should Have Given Up On Redfall

A new patch is here, but to what end?

When Redfall launched earlier this year, it was supposed to herald the triumphant return of large-scale Xbox first party releases after a huge drought marked only by the bright spot of Hi-Fi Rush.

Instead, it was a nightmarish and embarrassing mess. It was full of bugs, crashes, performance issues, and fundamental design flaws that were shocking to see from a celebrated game developer like Arkane. It’s the worst game that studio has ever released, and it’s also probably the most disappointing Microsoft first party publishing effort since their weird non-Halo games way back on the original Xbox.

The game was supposed to launch with a 60FPS performance mode on Xbox consoles, but that was nowhere to be seen at launch. The retail boxes for the game even called this out but had to be changed with stickers. Both the publisher and developer promised that this faster performance mode would be coming “soon,” and soon apparently meant five and a half months, because the big patch is here now.

It wasn’t worth it, you guys. They should have left this in the garbage pile of broken…
