HyperX’s new Pulsefire Haste 2 continues a weird recent performance discrepancy phenomenon within PC gaming hardware, and it has me wondering if we’re at the start of a new trend. For a long time now the gaming peripheral industry has put all their marketing money and development into the wireless space. Wireless products carry a price premium, and often have bigger feature sets or better internals to match.

Not so with some of these recent gaming mice releases. The Pulsefire Haste 2, like the DeathAdder V3 before it, packs in all the same great hardware components from its more expensive wireless cousin at a lower price — and also performs a bit better in real world use.

That makes it simple if you’re a customer looking to buy one of these new HyperX mice. If you’re interested in the Haste 2 and don’t mind dealing with a wire, there’s no reason to pay more for the wireless model. But it also has me scratching my head wondering what the exact business play is here, and if “wireless” all by itself is now meant to justify a higher retail cost.

The Pulsefire Haste 2 sells for $59 (official site here). As of this writing, that link is broken, which is both frustrating and perplexing. Perhaps HyperX realized this mouse was too good of a value and they pulled it down to…
