Turtle Beach, Roccat, and Neat Microphones Had a Powerful 2021
In a year that was dominated by delays, development challenges, and chip shortages, Turtle Beach, Roccat, and Neat Microphones had an impressive year. They all launched a number of new products that are great contenders for a permanent home on your gaming or work desk.
Turtle Beach not only shook things up in the affordable sub-$100 wired headset market with the amazing new driver tech in their Recon 500 headset, they also made a big splash into the gaming controller space. They launched a really good Xbox controller, and a new flight control system that managed to sell out at a record pace.
Roccat built on their strong design knowledge and put out some of the best mice I’ve ever used. They launched an excellent new range of more affordable keyboards, including the Pyro, which put other weird budget “mechanical-ish” models to shame by just being a nice new affordable mechanical keyboard. And their USB microphone, The Torch, is really cool and has mixing controls I haven’t seen included anywhere else at such a low price.
Neat somehow managed to refresh their entire main mic lineup, with a whole swathe of new products that still maintain their design flair, performance legacy, and a little hint of their great bold yellow color accent. I liked the Skyline USB mic, and their upcoming BumbleBee II looks like it’ll have the most audio performance ever packed into a small desktop gaming microphone.
If you’d like more information about any of these products, or the rest of Turtle Beach’s lineup for the year, you can find handy links in the press release they sent me below. They didn’t explicitly ask me to post about it; rather, I just thought this was a good opportunity to share my thoughts about the year this family of companies has had. They’ve firmly established themselves as strong players in the tech market, building on solid foundations and putting out a lot of fun new stuff in a tough time. That’s not what I expected at the start of the year, and is such a delightful surprise.
