UPDATE: Aaaand, a patch that launched yesterday somehow made all this grinding even slower. Not to mention adding more channeling time every time you exit a dungeon. Great. Good. The Diablo community is on fire.

I’m crashing out hard on the endgame content in Diablo IV… and I don’t think I’m alone in that sentiment.

During a recent stream, a developer on the game said that it’s “okay for people to stop playing” so that they don’t get burned out. That’s not a great sign for a supposedly years-long live service game that’s yet to launch its first season or its paid battle pass subscription.

It sort of feels like both of those features should have been ready to go right at launch, in order to better hook the most dedicated players in for the long haul. It feels like Blizzard didn’t anticipate the amount of new stuff that would be required to make the endgame engaging, or the number of balance tweaks to make and big bugs they’d have to fix. The main thrust of the first season (AKA “The Season of the Malignant”) is some reskinned worm-infested enemies, alongside tunnel-themed dungeons, one new boss fight, and an additional currency ramp to grind up. While I think this stuff will indeed help improve the current bland…
