I used to review headphones and other audio gear online, posting my thoughts on the latest models and upcoming releases each and every week. This sort of work brought in a number of readers who wanted to ask me questions — at least, when they weren’t accusing me of being some kind of paid agent working for one company or another. I never took any kind of sponsorship deal from any manufacturers, but it was funny to watch the accusations fly, even when I didn’t really like a product.
Aside from “You were clearly paid to write this!” the other most common comment I received was “Should I buy Model A or Model B?,” or its lesser-known cousin “Is Model A or Model B more comfortable?” Both of these questions are hard to answer for some random reviewer guy on the internet, since I’ve only just met you and even then we’ve only exchanged these few words about headphones in our short time together.
I get it though, at least in principle. Finding new tech products that fit your personal needs takes a lot of work. With the slow meandering contraction of physical retail technology stores and the meteoric rise of online shopping, it’s harder than ever to get a hands-on with something without plunking down your cash first. So, why not ask some random dude who has some expertise…
