I know that I’m supposed to write this sort of “awards” article near the end of the year, but I didn’t get around to it for a couple of reasons. First, I found last year’s premium gaming headset lineup weirdly frustrating for reasons I’ll dive into below. Secondly, I was holding out hope that some firmware updates would shake things up in my ranking order.

Alas, sometimes “good enough for third place” turns out to be good enough for first.

What is Premium?

For the purpose of this discussion, “premium” is a gaming headset that sits near the top of a company’s range and carries a price tag of at least $199. I know that rules out a lot of “good” headsets, but this is about judging the very best of the market.
