The Best Budget Gaming Mouse I Almost Skipped

Another random grocery store tech find

--

Earlier this year, I was walking through my local Fred Meyer/Kroger on Switch 2 launch day and happened to find one of Nintendo’s new consoles without any kind of preorder.

Last week, I was back in the same store, and this time I found a table full of various abandoned tech gadgets. Not nearly as exciting, on the surface. However, amidst the pile of bad-looking licensed IP Bluetooth speakers and weird grilling supplies, I found a small collection of HyperX gaming mice.

I had a bit of a falling out with HyperX as a company, one that’s almost entirely one-sided since I’m just a random internet guy and they’re a large tech firm. In 2019 and 2020, I had a brief window where I developed working relationships with some of the PC peripheral manufacturers. They would send me occasional review units of their headsets, keyboards, or mice, and I’d write about them here on Medium and my other personal blog. I never took any money or other sponsorship considerations, and I also never directly monetized my sample-based reviews through any affiliate links or paywalls. I was doing it for the love of checking stuff out and sharing my opinions as someone who is both a gamer, and who has a background in audio production.
