Thanks for the thoughtful and reasonable response, I appreciate it! I’ve been using Macs in some capacity since around 2002 myself! Having Touch ID would be pretty great, and I like using it on my phone. And you’re right, it solves the function key deprecation issue, which is something I hadn’t really considered before since like you, I’d categorized it as a quirk in my brain.

I totally get how the touch bar looks cool, but I’d love to see some usage statsitics on how many of the new millions of MacBook Pro users actually regularly touch the thing. I’m sure that data is quietly being collected on an Apple server somewhere.

I guess the phenomenal success of the new MBP’s means that I’ll have to just either get used to it when I finally upgrade…or consider going with a different portable machine.

I want Apple to try new things, but I want those things to be directly tied to making the computer experience better and faster for everyone, not just cooler-looking.
