Thanks for the reply, and for reading! I’m a big fan of virtual surround as well. I used to have a full 5.1 speaker setup in my computer area, but that became cumbersome to deal with.

I find headphone surround to be a decent replacement, when implemented right. I also do some professional sound mixing work, so it’s nice to be able to audition a surround mix quickly on headphones without having to use a full speaker setup.

I agree that Sony’s proprietary software is quite good! I wish it were more prevalent and available.
