Thanks for the reply. Thanks also for including your preferred music genres, that really helps me out!
Audio-technica has cut prices across their lineup recently, and both these headphones are cheaper than they used to be. The WS1100is is about $142 on Amazon as I’m writing this, which is nuts!
The “SR” Audio-Technica headphones all have a similar sound quality, because they’re all built off the same 45mm driver. They provide accurate bass, beautiful midrange, and crisp highs that might annoy some people. For rock music, I’d definitely prefer the WS1100is out of these two specific choices. It has a slight bump in the midbass that would make that genre more fun to listen to, in my opinion.
I think both pairs sound better than the M50X, but that’s a personal taste thing. They’re both focused on providing a high-end, accurate listening experience. Neither is going to have the artificial bass thump or the high end sizzle of the M50’s, but you can rest assured that you’re hearing something closer to the original recording.
Hope that helps you out! Thanks for asking! You can get some really good deals on a bunch of different SR series headphones right now.
