Skyrim VR is Super Cool

Still a killer app almost seven years later?

We’ve all probably had dozens of Skyrim experiences at this point — but when you’re standing there in the middle of its world, it’s a whole new incredible feeling.

Skyrim VR first launched for the original PlayStation VR headset, way back in 2017, before also coming to the PC the next year. It’s not included with any other copy of the game, but rather it’s a standalone full-priced experience that comes with all the original DLC expansions. As Bethesda has barreled forward with new game development, they thankfully haven’t burdened this VR version with all the microtransaction nightmares that the “flat” version of Skyrim now contains.

I’m pretty late to this party, but what a party it is! I’m playing Skyrim VR through a good old Quest 2, hooked up to my gaming PC with the relatively new official wireless Steam Link app. Performance is surprisingly good considering the streaming tech involved. You can play on a whole variety of headset hardware — though weirdly not the PSVR 2. I do think it’s baffling this hasn’t been brought forward to Sony’s newest headset considering how awesome the game is.
