"Retina display" is marketing fluff invented by Apple. Both panels have the same PPI/resolution. While the LG's web cam and USB ports might not be quite as great, they're still present.

Also, if you wanted to equal the height adjustment and stand flexibility of the LG, in a fair list comparison you'd have to add the $400 extra stand to the Apple model. So the fairer premium is $700 from a certain point of view.

If you want to pay $700 extra for this thing and have slightly more brightness, a slightly cleaner web cam you'll never use, a permanently attached cord, and no stand mount flexibility, be my guest!

Luxury is a terrible excuse for cutting fundamental features the rest of the market has at nearly every price category. This is a big whiff that could be easily fixed by a revision 2 that made some smart changes. But it doesn't matter because Apple will still roll around in fanboy money.
