Welcome to Reply Fridays, where I finally click on my Medium notifications, dig through them trying to sort out all the replies from the ungainly list, and post about them.

Chia Dai asks if I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning/trying the HD600. I haven’t! But they’re right in their assertion that the 500’s are more comfy. Sennheiser publishes clamping force numbers for most of their products, and the 600 series is noticeably more clampy on the head than the 500's
This is because the 500’s are designed for home use and the 600’s are designed for studios…and studio users whip their heads around constantly I guess? That clamp also helps a little bit with accurate sound performance, so I guess that’s something.
The Whomper asks another question regarding the WS1100iS and the Cloud Alphas. Still probably my favorte gimmick writer on Medium. It’s almost impossible to pick between headphones sometimes, especially if you haven’t heard them yet, and I tried to guide the Whomper through with some personal experiences.
James has encouraged me to keep writing gaming articles, which I appreciate! And he’s absolutely right. In spite of the fact that the gaming marketplace and userbase are both more diverse than ever, and long-tail sales are more possible than they’ve ever been thanks to strong digital platforms…gaming web sites, streamers, and personalities still completely ignore games as soon as they aren’t brand new or hyper popular.
It’s weird, and kind of unhealthy for the industry. Imagine if film criticism never delved into the back catalog. Imagine if every music review had to stand alone instead of drawing on an author’s insights from older content. Imagine if the world of literature had to survive without its beloved Canon.
The Lit Crit student in me just shuddered!
Old games have become a product to be exploited with re-releases, instead of a revered collection of influences and history. Films get re-released all the time, sure…but that’s mostly just to keep older titles accessible in new formats. I’m excited about Nintendo’s new subscription approach to old games, and Xbox’s Game Pass…but we can still do much better.
Sam asks about some issues he’s heard regarding the Arctis 3. I’ve had nothing but good personal experiences with this headset, so much so that I bought and reviewed it twice…once on Medium and once on my personal site.
But everyone’s subjective experience and head shape is different, so everyone’s mileage will vary. That’s why it’s so often hard to review headphones, and why sometimes people get so passionate defending or hating them on the internet.
