Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation Wireless Gaming Headset Review

“Kaira” is a Greek word meaning “opportune moment,” and when the Kaira gaming headset series from Razer first launched in 2020, it was their biggest step yet into the Xbox ecosystem. They were clearly looking to capitalize on the relative dearth of Xbox Wireless products in the marketplace, and make a big splash launching alongside the new Series X and S systems.
I had the pleasure of reviewing the original Xbox version of the Kaira Pro headset and I loved it, and it seemed like only a matter of time until they launched it across all other platforms as well. It took longer than I expected, but Razer finally brought the Kaira to all gamers, starting with a fully compatible wired budget “X” model, and crowning the family with a beefed up version of the Pro for PlayStation 4 and 5.
This newest Kaira Pro for PlayStation sells for $199 (official site here). I didn’t pay that much for it. I watched it receive discount after discount at my local Best Buy, and finally sprang for it out of my own pocket at around $130. Razer didn’t ask me to write this, and I don’t use affiliate links in any of my stories as I think they’ve ruined online product criticism.
I’m glad that I shopped around for a discount, because as much as I ended up liking this headset…it’s not without several issues.
As often happens when Razer designs a new headset, The Kaira Pro for PlayStation is like a weird glued-together greatest hits pile of previous Razer technologies. It has the HyperSense haptic feedback system first used in the Nari family and also featured in the recent Kraken V3. It has the sleek high-speed USB-C dongle and smart switch Bluetooth system featured on the current Barracuda lineup. It uses the 50mm TriForce drivers and HyperClear mic capsule first developed for the BlackShark V2. Finally, it packs in the chroma RBG lighting that Razer is so famous for, and a battery that lasts “up to” 50 hours.
That battery life is highly theoretical, and one of the many issues you’ll encounter if you take the plunge.
Before I bash this headset a bit, let me cover the good things. The sound quality here is…
