Oh man, I haven’t ever had to redownload the app to get it to work, I’m so sorry to hear that’s happened to you! That sounds like it would be a real bummer.
I have experienced one or two instances of static or popping on the Xbox One, but not enough times that I thought to mention it in my article. I figured it was some kind of CPU usage thing and that it would be worked out in a patch. It only happened to me a couple of times.
I should mention that I’ve been using an Xbox One S, and not the original model, so maybe that accounts for my slightly different experience? The redownloading the app problem sounds super lame, and I hope that Microsoft gets that worked out for you. Have you tried messaging their Xbox support twitter account? They’re really great and responsive and I’ve had great luck with them in the past.
