Well, it finally happened, for real this time. After literal years of speculation, dozens of detailed hardware leaks, and endless fan outcry for better frame rates in first party Nintendo games, they’ve finally announced the Switch 2. It’s coming out later this year, and in classic Nintendo fashion they’re being all spooky about it so that you have to keep tuning back in to their marketing over the next several months.
Rather than quell all the internet murmuring with a simple, straightforward proclamation of every relevant piece of info (like when we can actually buy the thing), Nintendo has instead elected to go with their classically mysterious goofy drip feed hype strategy. They’ve begun a slow multi-phase roll-out, with the next big drop in early April even set to feature a nationwide tour where they’ll travel around to major US cities and show the thing to people, as well as release more game footage.
This morning they ripped off the bandage by quietly launching a 2 minute, 22 second long video (cute) that’s centered around a CG rendered version of the original console that then transforms into the newer hardware. It shows the new JoyCon connection system. It shows the slightly larger screen. And it shows about eight seconds of what looks like Mario…
