Five years ago, the Nintendo Switch launched to thunderous success. It changed the console landscape forever, perfectly blending home and portable play into one machine. The hybrid concept propelled it to gargantuan sales numbers, and it is now Nintendo’s most popular and best-selling console of all time.

It got off to a strong start with an amazing launch lineup, held up entirely by the awe-inspiring world design and open-ended gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That game dominated the launch conversation, and rightly so; it’s a true classic in every sense of the word. Millions of people wanted to get it the second it came out, and although it was also available on the Wii U, the Switch emerged as the true place to play the game.

Although I think BOTW is a great game, it wasn’t actually the Switch launch title I was most looking forward to. That honor instead goes to Dragon Quest Heroes I & II. The Dynasty Warriors franchise is one of my favorites — right up there in my personal rankings with industry legends like Mario. I obsessively play and complete every new entry…sometimes on more than one machine. I’m crazy about it, and when I heard that the Switch was getting two of its best entries on day one plus extra content…
