The US and European localized release of Lost Ark took entirely too long, but now that it’s here, it’s the next big Steam hit.

Lost Ark is a free-to-play isometric action RPG that blends the best bits of Diablo, Black Desert, and classic MMO design. It was originally developed by Smilegate and Tripod studio over the course of eight years, and it first launched in South Korea way back in 2019. Amazon Games, the beleaguered and highly funded studio that’s had trouble getting titles out the door, proudly announced that they’d picked it up for localization and wider release. Delay after delay piled up, and it’s finally out — at least if you’re willing to chip a little money in.

It launches free for everyone tomorrow (Feb 11th, 2022), but if you pay at least $15 you can get in right this very moment. I jumped in at the beginning of this head start period on Tuesday morning…or at least, I tried to. Right at its launch time something went wrong with the Steam decryption system and not a single user, including influencers paid to market the game, could get it to unlock. It was wild after years…
