I was truly astounded at the number of times that mods were mentioned during the press cycle, in the reviews, and on message boards before the game came out. It really did seem like Bethesda though they could just build whatever and that a huge fan community would show up out of nowhere.

The game now has a paid mods store built into it, but most of the content being pushed is from Bethesda themselves.

It's all a shame because I think that under the aimless design direction, there's some legitimately good iteration on the classic systems they've used for so long. The game feels like it was made in about two years, not the decade they repeatedly tried to claim it took.
