I’ve spent the last several years collecting heavily discounted copies of 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance across different gaming platforms…and then never got around to playing them.
Now, on the eve of the launch of its much-anticipated and apparently vast sequel, I finally sat down to try and see if I want to dedicate myself to this RPG franchise for a couple of weeks.
The original game opens in an idyllic town called Skalitz in the early 1400’s, though in grand videogame fashion things soon escalate dramatically and a huge adventure begins. Before all that, the game has to shove all of its many systems into my brain, and force me to learn to use its huge pile of menus, button combos, and controls.
I make Henry, the random peasant hero of the game, stumble down into town with a chore list from his blacksmith father. The main goal here is to get some items to help finish a sword, but in order to do that I’ve first got to deal with my new mortal enemy: the town’s woodcutter, Kunesh.
No one seems to like Kunesh. He’s characterized as a drunkard and a layabout. He’s “purchased” a new axe, nails, and other tools from Henry and his dad well over a month in the past without submitting any sort of…
