I Love Logitech’s Most Divisive Gaming Mouse

The G309 desperately needs a different name

For a long time, one of the best affordable “starter” gaming mice has been the Logitech G305. Now, after six years of no meaningful updates (basically an eternity in the gaming tech space), they’re back with a brand new take on the same design concepts with the G309.

You’d think this would be cause for immediate celebration. Instead, I’ve seen numerous outraged takes about it online over the last several months. I spend far too much of my free time lurking in online tech communities and in the comments sections of different reviews, so I’ll admit that the exposure to the anger is my own fault. Still, it seems anecdotally like gaming mouse fans are mad that the G309 is more expensive, that it’s not lighter, and that it’s another avenue for Logitech to upsell their premium wireless charging mat.

I even fell into this skepticism hole myself. I saw all the rage going on and it amplified my own negative opinions of the mouse. I dismissed it somewhat out of hand, believing it to be nothing more than another safe and boring Logitech iteration from a company infamously known for not taking many chances.
