If you think that console war arguments online are bad, then you should stay far far away from the constantly churning rage over which digital storefront on the PC platform is the “best” one. Until the launch of the Steam-opposed Epic Game Store, I had no idea that so many gamers were ready to take to the internet battlefield to defend their gaming distribution DRM-scheme of choice.

That’s right, I just called Steam and Epic two different forms of DRM. Steam has promised to remove all online checks in the extremely unlikely event that they ever go away, but in the here and now, they are a digital rights management system that people eagerly jump into thanks to deals and then fight to uphold as the “best” like their lives depend on it.

From a true user/consumer-friendliness perspective, the best store is probably gog.com, born out of the same company that now makes The Witcher and Cyberpunk. They proudly and correctly boast that they are DRM-free, and offer a platform/app in GOG Galaxy that I think is fun to use. So if you forced me to pick a “favorite” online store, I’d go with that one even though I don’t think CD Projekt is a problem-free company.
