HyperX continues their impressive onslaught of summer headset refreshes with the new Cloud Stinger S, available now from their web site and major retail partners. The original Stinger first launched back at the end of 2016, and I had a great time with it.

This new model adds a subtle new color scheme inspired by the current HyperX aesthetic, and a new USB surround adapter that first debuted alongside a Cloud Stinger Core refresh earlier this year. It sells for just ten dollars more than the standard Stinger, at a price point of $59.99 (official product page here). The USB adapter contains its own dedicated sound hardware, and unlocks the ability to turn on HyperX’s proprietary virtual surround software inside their Ngenuity software package for Windows 10.

I’m a fan of HyperX’s latest virtualization system. It competes well with the other surround systems on the market, and on the other headset models I’ve tested it with, it offers custom-tuned profiles for several popular games. As they add this system to more of their headset lineup, I’m hopeful that they’ll keep updating it with more options.

I bought my own Cloud Stinger S from Amazon, and it should be here soon. I’ll have a review out sometime next week. The low price point and proven track-record of both the original Stinger and HyperX’s 7.1 system make this a really strong competitor on paper.
