The Cloud changed home gaming audio forever

Today, HyperX has announced that they’ve shipped 20 million headsets. I’ve been a long time fan and user of their products, and their headset lineup is the core of their business as far as I’m concerned.

When the original Cloud came out in 2014, its popularity changed what the market thought a gaming headset could be. It took a more balanced sound signature straight out of the studio world and brought it to gamers, combined with exceedingly comfy memory foam ear pads and a capable microphone.

Before the Cloud, most gaming headsets were booming bass monsters with muddled sound and huge outlandish designs. HyperX changed that with a sleek package that learned lessons from the non-gaming audio space, and since then they’ve continued to design smart audio products with a balance of comfort, sound quality, and value.

That last point is important; what’s the use of innovating in a space if no one can afford to buy it? HyperX passing this milestone is a clear sign that the market agrees, and I hope that under their new HP leadership they can continue to build quality headsets and other peripherals for years to come.

While I’m mostly familiar with their headset lineup, I do also sometimes dabble with their other products, and I have reviews of the Pulsefire Haste mouse and Fury S mouse pad coming soon!
