Hello! They sound the same and work almost the same over a USB connection to a PS4…but as I said, the volume dials don’t work and you’ll have to use the OS settings, just like with any other generic USB headset on the platform.

There’s no surround functionality built into the RIG 800 at all. On Xbox, surround comes from Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos in the operating system. On PS4…you’re stuck in stereo.

I’ve written about this frustration before.

Sony has their own great surround software, but it’s locked to their Gold and Platinum headsets. The only way to get headphone surround out of the PS4 otherwise is to buy dedicated processing hardware that hooks up over an optical or HDMI connection.

There’s nothing stopping Sony from selling their 3D audio software to all users who use the controller jack or USB headsets…except pushing you to buy one of their products. They aren’t bad headsets, of course, and exclusive features make things attractive…but it’s definitely a feather in Microsoft’s cap.
