Maybe the best portable open world game?

Every few weeks now, I see a whole new crop of articles and videos appear online asking whether or not the Nintendo Switch is “powerful enough.” There’s a big fresh batch of these out there right now thanks to the impending release of Tears of The Kingdom.

Of course, the idea of powerful “enough” is entirely subjective, and I don’t think that most of Nintendo’s audience (or really most of the mainstream gaming audience) is all that concerned about specific processing power.

I find myself landing in the middle ground on this debate. I absolutely think it is the right year for Nintendo to announce new hardware. The Switch is barreling into its seventh year of life, and it’ll be two full years on from the launch of its OLED upsell model by the time Christmas rolls around. Hardware sales are still strong, but the quiet post-Zelda release calendar has me wondering if they’re planning for a new thing.

That said, I’ve always loved the hardware capabilities of the Switch, and if Nintendo goes for a couple years of overlap and cross-generation titles, I won’t be all that upset. The Nintendo Switch is a cool little piece of hardware, pushing Nvidia’s Tegra platform much harder and further into the future than I ever thought…
