Corsair K70 Pro Mini Wireless Gaming Keyboard Review
I loved the last two Corsair keyboards I reviewed — but then both of them experienced switch death and soured my good times. One of the K55 SE’s interesting Cherry Viola switches went dead moments after I published my positive review, and my beloved K65 Mini lost a Cherry Speed switch after about eight months of hard use.
This was surprising and a huge bummer. Cherry is known for accurate switch life estimates that in both cases should have given me millions more presses before any problems arose. Both keyboards failed well within the warranty period, so Corsair would definitely cover me…but sometimes it’s nice to know that you can just fix something quickly on your own. Many enthusiast and OEM mechanical keyboards offer easy and near-painless switch replacements, thanks to the magic of hot swappable pins that don’t even require you to unplug anything from power.
I’ve been waiting for one of the big gaming companies to fully embrace hot swappable switches. Logitech dipped their toes in a while back with an online exclusive version of their creaky venerable Pro keyboard, but it never had wide availability and recycled an ancient design with an upcharge added for the privilege of hot swap capability.
