Buy Alan Wake RIGHT NOW Because it’s going away forever in a couple of days

UPDATE: If you’re reading this now, it’s already too late!

This is a sad day.

Apparently, the music licensing for Alan Wake expires in a couple of days, and the game is being pulled from Steam and Xbox Live.

If you never played it, you’re missing out on one of the most immersive thriller/shooter experiences in video gaming.

Alan Wake is a writer. He writes crime drama books and thrillers. He has writer’s block, so he and his wife go for a vacation in a fictional Northwestern US town called Bright Falls.

Then his wife goes missing and some zombie dudes show up, and you have to shoot the dudes. Also, Alan discovers pages from a book he doesn’t remember writing, and it turns out the words on the pages start happening to him in real life.

There’s a lot more to it than that, but it’s mostly a great scary shooter in a large open environment with excellent storytelling.

If you’ve ever liked Remedy’s other games, like Max Payne or Quantum Break, you’ll love this game. If you want atmosphere as thick as a thick thing, you’ll love this game. If you’re way into sound design, go buy this game.

Yes, the lip sync in some of the cutscenes is a little janky. But everything else here presentation-wise is just about perfect. Alan Wake spent most of its development as an open-world game, until they honed it down to focus on storytelling. The result is a linear game with a vast amount of content, but it just comes at you full speed. You’ll be shocked at the amount of bespoke voice work and level design on display here.

The soundtrack is also amazing. Aside from a bunch of wonderfully-used licensed songs that are about to kill the game, there’s also great original music. There’s some original songs from Poets of the Fall. The sound design is truly horrifying and atmospheric. The gun sounds are some of the best in gaming.

If you like a good single player shooter and wish that shooters had stories that were good, you need Alan Wake in your life. You only have a couple of days left.

I am so sad this is going away, it’s one of my favorite games. Don’t miss out!

Please click the heart if you liked this but maybe instead go buy Alan Wake first on Steam or Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
